Taisa Koberstein (nee Kaplun) Obituary

Peacefully, surrounded by her family, Taisa Koberstein heard the call of her beloved Jesus, her Lord and Savior, on Saturday September 25, 2021, entering into His eternal presence at the age of 96.

Taisa was the second of 8 children born to Theodore and Alwine Kaplun. She was predeceased by father Theodore Kaplun, mother Alwine Kaplun, sister Lydia at age 3, brother Herman at age 1 1/2, sister Klara Grams, brothers Robert Kaplun, Philipp Kaplun, and Felix Kaplun. She is survived by Walter, her husband of 71 years; sons, Kurt (Margaret), and Dieter (Wendy) along with granddaughters, Deona, Diella (Jeff), Janaya, and Tiffany; great granddaughter Hazel; and brother Adolph (Olga) Kaplun.

Taisa was born on September 6, 1925 in Cholnice, Poland. She grew up in a time of peace, but in 1940 after the outbreak of the Second World War, she, together with the entire Kaplun family were resettled from Cholnice in Soviet controlled eastern Poland to German controlled western Poland. In 1945 the family was ordered to evacuate their homes and as refugees moved to Germany. Taisa and the Kaplun family endured many hardships during this time. In 1948 the Kaplun family was sponsored to immigrate to Canada and settled in Winnipeg. It was here in 1949 where she met Walter and they were married on September 2nd 1950. Taisa was a supportive wife and doting mom, lovingly looking after all aspects of home and family life.

Funeral service will be held on Friday, October 1, 2021 at 11:00 am at Mission Baptist Church, 771 Sargent Avenue, Winnipeg, officiated by Pastors David Holland and Sig Seidel, with Interment at Brookside Cemetery.

We are so thankful to the Meadowood Manor Care Home staff for their love and support demonstrated for Taisa and towards our family.

Special thanks to former Meadowood Manor Chaplain David Holland, her pastor and friend, who provided much needed spiritual support and tender care during her time at Meadowood.

In lieu of flowers, donations may de directed to the Meadowood Manor Foundation Inc.

The family requests that all attendees at the funeral be fully vaccinated.
