He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 63 years, Katherine (Unrau) Last, and children; Richard (Sharyn), Allan, Janet (Melvin) Dunn, Teresa (Jeff) Dunn, Brad (Susan), along with grandchildren; Michael Last, Dustin Last, Andrea Dunn, Steph (Jeremy) Toews, Cindie (Jarren) Hildebrandt, Scott Dunn, Brent Dunn, Tim Dunn, Kaitlyn Dunn, Kevin Dunn, Cody Last, Olivia Last, Bailey Last and Sydney Last and 5 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Fred was born in Carman, MB on April 2, 1933 and grew up NE of Homewood with his two brothers and one sister. His dad passed away when Fred was 5 years old. After a house fire, the family moved to the current farm yard in 1943 where Fred grew up with his grandparents, mom and siblings. He attended Boyne School until Grade 8 and later received his GED along with Katherine in 1987.

Fred took over the family farm SE of Carman; raising pigs and cattle as well as growing crops. Farming was a family affair with all of the kids responsible to help with haying, swathing and regular chores with the pigs and cows. As adults, Fred’s sons have all farmed alongside their Dad. As was mentioned often, he was very proud of everyone in his family.

Curling was a passion of Fred’s both playing and watching. He looked forward to his league play and always participated in area bonspiels with the family rinks. In the later years, he could also be found watching his grandchildren play baseball and following the Blue Jays on TV.

Funeral service was held on Saturday, August 26, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Carman Pentecostal Assembly. Family interment took place in Greenwood Cemetery, Carman.
